Possibly a Stool is a project which never got beyond the stage of a cardboard model although it was intended to become a stool. The model is actually nothing but a formal idea cut into cardboard and held together by adhesive tape. The idea was, however, to create a stool made of some flat material, for example sheet metal, and use only one screw to fix the folded structure – either as simplification of a manufacturing process, as simple DIY system or as stool which would become flat again for easy storage with a flick of the wrist. Thomas Feichtner designed another model using lightweight materials, which was intended to reduce the stool to its static construction, removing all statically irrelevant areas from the model. Both designs do work as cardboard models, but the production of a stool supporting a person sitting on it was abandoned. All that remained was the idea – “possibly a stool“.
Possibly a Stool ist ein Projekt, das nie über das Stadium des Kartonmodells hinausgekommen ist und eigentlich ein Hocker hätte werden sollen. Der Entwurf ist in Wirklichkeit nichts weiter als ein formaler Gedanke in Karton geschnitten und mit Klebeband zusammengehalten. Der Gedanke jedoch war es, einen Hocker aus einem flachen Material wie z. B. Blech zu falten und die Konstruktion lediglich mit einer Schraube zu fixieren. Entweder als Vereinfachung eines Produktionsverfahrens, als simples Eigenbausystem oder als Hocker, der mit nur einem Handgriff wiederum zu einem flachen Stück werden würde und einfach zu verstauen wäre. Thomas Feichtner hat ein weiteres Modell in Leichtbauweise entworfen, das den Hocker auf seine statische Konstruktion reduzieren sollte. Dabei hat er alle statisch irrelevanten Flächen aus dem Modell geschnitten. Beide Entwürfe funktionieren zwar als Kartonmodelle, die Produktion eines belastbaren Hockers wurde jedoch nie weiterverfolgt. So blieb es lediglich bei dem Gedanken – „possibly a stool“.
